USA Water Polo Rules - New Goal Area
When officiating, remember these key water polo rules: an attacker inside the goal area is penalized unless behind the ball line. No offense occurs within the 2-meter line but outside the goal area. Players behind the ball line are allowed into the goal area to receive the ball. If a player inside the goal area passes backward, they must exit promptly to avoid being whistled for offsides. Also, if a player momentarily enters the goal area without interference, they must leave immediately as this is now a more defined area.

USA Water Polo Rules - Advantage and Throws
When there is a counterattack, a player with advantage does not have to give up the advantage to go to the ball and take the free throw, goal throw or corner throw. The next closest player of that team to the ball can take the throw as long as there is no undue delay.

USA Water Polo - Penalty Throws
Before a penalty throw, all players except the attacker must clear the 6-meter area, staying at least three meters from the thrower. On the 6-meter line, one defender on each side of the thrower has priority. The goalkeeper must stay between the goal posts with no body part beyond the water-level goal line.
